FORMER Conservative British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher died this morning, following a stroke. She was 87 years old.
Baroness Thatcher was the first female British Prime Minister, serving in the role from 1979 until 1990.
She will have a ceremonial funeral, rather than a state funeral - with gun carriage, military procession and a service at St Paul's Cathedral - in the same style as the Queen Mother and Diana, Princess of Wales.
Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute to Thatcher via Twitter today: "It was with great sadness that I learned of Lady Thatcher's death," he Tweeted. "We've lost a great leader, a great Prime Minister and a great Briton."
Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman also paid her respects to the celebrated politician: "Baroness Thatcher redefined the notion of a woman in politics. She was arguably the first British leader who embraced the importance of using the media in her mission - determined to get her message across to as many people as possible in its unswerving vision. She turned herself into an icon of conservative ideology - her image becoming synonymous with her views, from her immaculate hair to her notorious handbags. Even those who disagreed with her politics will remember her as a shrewd, influential visionary."
Her image was as arguably as famous as her politics:
* Favouring Twin-Sets,
* Asprey Handbags,
* Pussy Bow Blouses.
